Glamping? Not quite. Safari just got a little more luxurious. Minor Hotels is taking its luxury safari ambitions to the next level with the opening of Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, the brand's first-ever tented safari camp.
The brand’s first ever tented safari camp is located in Kafue National Park, boasting 13 keys, with every accommodation offering nearly 25 feet of private river frontage and dedicated hosts for dining, activities and wellness arrangements.
Anantara Kafue’s signature accommodation, the three Horizon Terrace Suites, are suspended 45 feet above the ground and accessed by a glass elevator, with upper‑level star beds and expansive decks. Guests staying in Pool and Bush Villas enjoy private plunge pools and dedicated indoor spa rooms, while the 4,300-square-foot Presidential Villa offers elevated river views, exclusive boat access and a private spa zone.
Guests can enjoy activities including game drives, guided walks river safaris, walking expeditions, bush picnics and catch-and-release fishing. They can also take advantage of a fully equipped floating Technogym fitness platform anchored in the river for private training, yoga and open‑air relaxation, birdwatching and stargazing.
For dining, guests can visit the camp’s signature floating pontoon on the river for dawn breakfasts, afternoon tea and sunset dinners. Additionally, the Luzuba Harvestry and Twalumba Bar & Lounge offer modern Zambian cuisine, afternoon tea, cocktails and fireside gatherings, while Spice Spoons provides hands‑on Zambian cooking classes for further immersion.
While the camp is located in one of Africa's largest protected wilderness areas, the luxury experience has been designed so it doesn't come at the expense of the landscape. The camp is built on timber platforms raised 11 feet above the ground to protect wildlife corridors, runs on solar power, eliminates single-use plastics and is part of African Parks' ongoing restoration of Kafue National Park. Its opening coincides with wildlife restoration initiatives which has seen the recovery of the wilderness where hippos, elephants, antelopes, predators and over 500 bird species now flourish.
“Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River’s location within a major conservation landscape allows us to introduce a new standard of low-impact luxury in Zambia while contributing to the long-term restoration of Kafue National Park,” says Nico Vivier, Regional Director of Operations and Development for Minor Hotels Africa.
The opening comes as luxury travelers continue to value untouched destinations with a strong connection to the local area, sustainability and nature-based escapes. This has led to increasing interest from global hotel brands, such as Marriott International with its safari camps, that are eager to extends their luxury portfolios in African wildlife areas.
