Darwin Distilling Co. in Australia’s Northern Territory has introduced its newest tourism experience for guests: “Heli-foraging: A Bespoke Gin Making Experience.”
Guests who embark on the heli-foraging adventure will depart from Darwin in a helicopter, travel across the rivers, floodplains and escarpments that are unique to the Northern Territory, and land at the Finniss River Lodge. They will be treated to an exclusive journey through a 50,000-acre outback cattle station and luxury lodge and, depending on the season, will forage for native botanicals in either an ATV buggy or airboat. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about and sustainably harvest botanicals such as quinine, ti tree, turkey bush, paperbark and waterlily. They will then journey back to Darwin to craft their own premium gin.
The expert-led heli-foraging tour is made possible through a collaboration between Darwin Distilling Co., Finniss River Lodge and Nautilus Aviation, and includes return helicopter transfers to and from Finniss River Lodge, morning tea, an airboat or ATV ride to the foraging experience, lunch at Charlie’s of Darwin, a gin distilling lesson, and a 500ml bottle of take-home gin. Optional extras can be added to ensure a bespoke experience, including meeting the distiller, a stopover at a Litchfield National Park waterfall, and extra lunch options.
Darwin Distilling Co. is a Northern Territory distillery that was founded in 2020 by Rebecca Bullen, an entrepreneur and owner of two other hospitality venues in Darwin.
