There’s always plenty happening in the world of Belmond. Here’s a sampling of what’s on tap for this year.
In London, Belmond Cadogan Hotel is set to open this winter. Located on historic Sloane Street, the hotel will be an intimate city retreat with just 54 rooms and suites. Expect the design to blend the luxury of Knightsbridge with the artistic spirit of Chelsea. (From its main entrance, guests will find luxury brands and high-end retailers of the former, while an exit through the side door will have guests among craft boutiques, artisanal food and trendy drinking spots.)
There will also be a fine-dining British restaurant (by British celebrity restaurateur Adam Handling), an elegant bar, a tea lounge and a sidewalk café. The hotel will also have a garden, fitness suite, spa suite and library.
Several specialty suites — including Park View Corner Suites, the Royal Suite and the Penthouse Suite — are set to be the top accommodations. These suites will have inviting king-size beds, a walk-in closet and living rooms with “vintage flourishes.” Tip: The Royal Suite (No. 118) is the famed room where Oscar Wilde was arrested.
Belmond’s “best kept secret” — a historic hideaway in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico — is sporting a new look. The project encompassed all 37 of Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada’s rooms and suites, the relaxed Mexican eatery Restaurante del Parque, the elegant restaurant Andanza, the tequila nightspot The Blue Bar, the Laja Spa, and all of its public spaces, courtyards and gardens.
Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada, a historic hideaway in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, has 37 rooms and suites.
The hotel comprises a cluster of casonas dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, with newly redone landscaping that aims to channel the spirit of rural Mexico through its courtyards, fountains, stone archways, orange trees and cycad and agave plants. The refresh added a new Artist’s Corner at Casa Parque, inspired by the city’s local craft scene. There the artist-in-residence, Jose Luis Arias, a graduate of the Instituto Allende, conducts regular guest art classes and city gallery tours. The reimagined Laja Spa includes a fitness studio, three treatment rooms and a rooftop relaxation area.
In terms of accommodations, each of the newly appointed bedrooms and suites has artworks by local talent, as well as Mexican antiques such as antique rugs, soft furnishings and tapestries. Most rooms now have fireplaces and lounge areas.
In the Caribbean, Belmond Cap Juluca is now taking bookings and will welcome guests starting November 17. After being acquired by Belmond, the Anguilla property underwent a comprehensive renovation, including the development of 25 new beachfront villas and suites.
Many of the accommodations offer large bathrooms that overlook walled botanical courtyards with a private seating area. The three- and five-bedroom private villas have kitchens, large dining areas and private pools. The new Spa and Fitness Centre, set among the resort’s gardens with views of the Caribbean, will offer a yoga pavilion, gym and seven all-suite treatment villas — with private terraces and seating by the sea.
The new “CAP’s Cool Pool” and outdoor terrace has an infinity-edge pool, shaded botanical courtyard and tree-lined sunbathing decks.
Pimms Restaurant will serve Caribbean classics and Anguillan delicacies. Freshly squeezed fruit juices, smoothies and snacks are on offer at the new Maundays Lounge and Pool Terrace. By night, Maundays’ service turns to ceviche and tapas as the rum cocktails flow. The Cap Shack, located on a remote stretch of Maundays Bay, offers mixed rum punches and freshly caught fish.
