In a written announcement, Bruno Magras, president of the Federation of Saint-Barthélemy, said the island will reopen its borders to tourism starting Monday, June 22. The island has been under lockdown since mid-March and has had six confirmed cases, according to Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; WIMCO Villas adds the virus on island has been “eradicated” and there have been no active cases since April 20.
According to President Magras’ announcement, “life on the island has returned to normal” and all beaches, restaurants and boutiques are open as usual, without restrictions. Nautical activities are also available.
For arriving guests, they will be asked to provide a COVID-negative RT-PCT test performed within three days prior to departure. The government asks visitors to bring a physical or digital copy of the test and present it as passport control. Those with a negative test may move about the island freely.
If it is impossible for you to get tested, you will be required to be tested for COVID-19 at the drive-through test center in Gustavia within 24 hours of arrival in St. Barth’s. Until your results are known, you will be required to observe a strict quarantine in your villa or hotel room, during which you may only interact with those traveling in your party. If you are staying on the island for more than seven days, a second RT-PCR test will be required on Day 7. Note: Children under 10 are not subject to testing.
WIMCO Villas, which has rented villas in St. Barth’s for over 35 years, says that it has modified its arrival service to reduce points of contact and has revised villa cleaning guidelines provided to the housekeeping for the 375 private villas it represents on the island. Additionally, WIMCO also offers a concierge service, who can outfit a villa in advance to make the arrival day more seamless.
In terms of getting to St. Barths, San Juan Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is currently the best hub for American clients, as St. Martin’s Princess Juliana Airport is not yet open. Tradewind Aviation operates scheduled flights from San Juan to St. Barth’s, operating a fleet of Pilatus PC-12 planes, with a flying time of roughly 50 minutes. Private charter flights to are available from San Juan for a connection with your private jet or airline connection.
