AmaWaterways has added two new river cruise dates in 2023 for guests to enjoy “Heritage on the River: Your Personalized Ancestry Experience.” These special itineraries, conducted in collaboration with AmaWaterways’ partner Ancestry.com, will provide guests exclusive opportunities to explore their heritage with tailored experiences that educate them about the destinations their ancestors once called home.
Guests can enjoy dedicated “Heritage on the River” experiences on two seven-night cruises: The “Legendary Danube” cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest departing June 17, 2023; and the “Captivating Rhine” cruise from Amsterdam to Basel departing November 2, 2023.
Guests signing up for AmaWaterways’ exclusive heritage-focused program start their experience with a pre-journey welcome call with an expert genealogist, an AncestryDNA Kit and a five-hour Ancestry research and consultation package. Guests will be accompanied by a genealogist throughout their journey. Highlights of the trip include two historical and genealogical presentations, a private consultation, a hosted lunch or dinner and a curated excursion delving further into the region’s heritage.
During the “Captivating Rhine” cruise, guests will gain a deeper understanding of their ancestors’ challenging journey to the new world through a visit to the historic Red Star Line Museum in Antwerp. On the “Legendary Danube” cruise, the expert genealogist offers a unique perspective on the Jewish and Hungarian migration experiences with exclusive enhancements to Budapest and Vienna city tours. Guests on either cruise can choose to expand their “Heritage on the River” experience with private ancestral home visits to the spots their families once lived, worked, attended school or worshiped.
To further enhance the European immersion, the line is offering optional, guided pre- and post-cruise land packages. The “Legendary Danube” cruise will offer a pre-cruise program of three nights in Prague, while the post-cruise program offers three nights in Kraków. The “Captivating Rhine” cruise offers a pre-cruise program of two nights in Amsterdam, with the post-cruise program offering two nights in Lucerne and two nights in Zurich.
Reservations are open for the two additional “Heritage on the River: Your Personalized Ancestry Experience” cruises in 2023. Travel advisors can access AmaWaterways’ new Ancestry Marketing Toolkit on the TA Portal, featuring information about the experiences that guests will have throughout the journey, and how guests can further personalize their “Heritage on the River” experience.
