Explora Journeys has announced that Alaska will feature as a new addition to Explora I’s voyage collection for 2024. Three new itineraries will depart from Vancouver for guests to explore the Alaskan wilderness. The Alaskan season will run from May 6 to August 28, 2024.
The “Remote Wrangell and Spectacular Sitka” inaugural itinerary will depart Vancouver on May 6, 2024. The 11-night voyage will sail the Inside Passage, Wrangell, Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, Ketchikan, Misty Fjord, Victoria and return to Vancouver on May 17, 2024. Activities include flight-seeing Mount Edgecumbe; kayaking Sitka Sound; hiking former WWII installations; exploring the Fortress of Bears; and visiting the blue-domed St. Michael’s Cathedral.
The 11-night “Sailing the Whale’s Highway” includes Icy Strait Point, Hoonah and the Hubbard Glacier. The “Journey of the Glaciers” is a 10-night voyage that will visit coastlines sculpted by rivers of jagged ice, and includes Mendenhall Glacier, Misty and Tracy Arm fjords. Visitors can also hike, bike, paddle, trek or board a seaplane to soar across the Tongass National Forest.
Each journey will offer ample opportunities for adventure from experiencing the crack and gurgle of the Mendenhall Glacier, flying over the wilderness or spotting brown bears and humpback whales. Both on board and ashore, guests will have ample opportunity to explore the region’s cuisine, complimented with a beverage from one of the numerous Alaskan microbreweries.
