Ginger is the newest craft launched by Heritage Line, which operates bespoke river cruises across Southeast Asia. The elegant wooden junk boat sails on Lan Ha Bay in Vietnam, the equally stunning but much quieter extension of Vietnam’s famous UNESCO-listed Halong Bay.
This is intimate cruising with just 12 large suites. The six Junior Suites on the Main Deck have separate sofa lounge areas, and the two Signature Suites are the same size on the Upper Deck. The most luxurious are the two Regent Suites, which are 538 square feet, themed on mythical Vietnamese birds and have Jacuzzis. Relaxing on the sun beds around the blue mosaic pool on the Terrace Deck is an exclusive way to enjoy the stunning scenery of this little known part of Halong’s emerald waters.
The ship has 12 large suites, including two Regent Suites, one of which, the Blue Phoenix, is shown here.
The restaurant, with its 360-degree windows, is another vantage point from which to drink in the bay’s jungle-clad limestone peaks and islands. Watching the chefs in the live kitchen with their final prepping, plating up and serving from live cooking stations is every bit as mesmerizing as the scenery outside. The spa has a range of relaxing treatments, and, for a taste of Vietnamese rural life, there are afternoon excursions with bicycles and electric cars to Cát Bà Island.
