Scenic Eclipse II will offer a submersible experience in the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia. With the introduction of its new submersible, Scenic is poised to become the first commercial cruise operator to offer a submersible experience in the region. On the opposite coast of Australia, the 228-guest, ultra-luxury yacht will offer exploration in the Kimberley region via two helicopters.
Custom-designed in collaboration with Triton Submarines, Scenic Neptune II utilizes the latest technology, accommodating up to eight guests and an expert pilot. The submersible will offer excursions into the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Diving up to 600 feet below the surface, Scenic Neptune II will provide unrestricted views of the vistas beneath the surface.
Setting sail on April 30, 2024, guests on “Australia’s Top End: Cape York & Arnhem Land” voyage will sail from Cairns to Darwin. Guests can visit remote islands and listen to captivating stories from locals, besides enjoying an underwater exploration of the Great Barrier Reef onboard Scenic Neptune II and uncover the Cape York, known as the “Tip of Australia.”
Scenic Eclipse II’s Airbus H130-T2 helicopters have air-conditioned interiors and large windows, and are also the quietest helicopters in the sky. With no need for transfers to an external operator and simultaneous landings and departures direct from the ship, guests have more time to spend in the air or at their destination.
Scenic is offering two itineraries exploring this ancient wilderness with a total of 12 departures, from May through August 2024: “Discover the Kimberey Coastline” and “Uncover the Kimberey Coastline,” sailing in opposite directions between Darwin and Broome. On each voyage, the flightseeing program will be complemented by up to 11 helicopter excursions designed by Jason Flesher, Scenic’s director of discovery operations. These include tours over the King George River and Horizontal Falls, visits to remote indigenous communities, besides landings at Darwin Aviation Museum and Willie Creek Pearl Farm for VIP touring, to name a few. Throughout the voyage, helicopter barramundi fishing expeditions and private beach picnics will be on offer. Guests will also have the opportunity to create their own journeys, chartering the helicopters for private flightseeing and specialized tours.
