Second Silver Wind Refurb to Increase Cruising Versatility

Silversea Cruises has announced plans for a second refurbishment of Silver Wind, completing the major refurbishment project started in December 2018. The second dry dock period, which is scheduled for summer 2020, will give the ship ice-class classification and improved cruising versatility, as well as a number of improvements to the vessel’s interior. The revamped ship will sail both classic and expedition itineraries.

Part of Project Invictus—a long-term plan to grow and improve Silversea’s fleet of ships – the second refurbishment of Silver Wind will begin in August 2020. As well as benefitting from a strengthened ice-class hull, new equipment for cruising in remote regions, a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks for on-water exploration, and an upgraded theatre, the second refurbishment will aim to enhance the ship’s comfort: all suites will undergo another full upgrade; the Spa & Salon will each be completely refurbished; the Reception/Atrium will be overhauled; and additional improvements will be made to La Dame, La Terrazza, the Main Bar, the Observation Lounge, the Panorama Lounge, the Pool Bar, public bathrooms, and the Theatre, among other spaces. Accommodating fewer guests (254), Silver Wind will also offer higher space ratios, a higher crew-to-guest ratio, and more upper suites, among other enhancements.

Silver Wind will continue to take guests to destinations in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. In the Caribbean, the ship will continue to visit ports such as San Juan, Barbados and St. Barth, as well as smaller ports, including Bequia, Anguilla and Les Saintes. Mediterranean favorites, such as Venice, Monte Carlo and Barcelona, will also continue to feature on the ship’s sailed itineraries, along with more secluded destinations like Syros, Mljet, and Antibes.

Silver Wind will also journey to expedition destinations, including the Arctic and Antarctica. The enhanced ship will resume service on November 10, 2020, embarking on her inaugural season in Antarctica.

Sample voyages from Silver Wind’s inaugural season in Antarctica will include:

WI201121014 - Departing Ushuaia on November 21, 2020, on a 15-day roundtrip voyage, Silver Wind will spend a day at sea before calling at the Falkland Islands, the Drake Passage, Antarctic Sound, the Antarctic Peninsula, and the South Shetland Islands, before returning to Ushuaia via the Drake Passage. Zodiac and kayak tours led by Silversea’s Expedition Team will enrich the experience for guests.

WI201205014 - The newly refurbished Silver Wind will follow the same itinerary from December 5, 2020, returning to Ushuaia on December 19.

As part of the 2018 refurbishment, Silver Wind’s interior public spaces underwent extensive renovations: the Show Lounge, the Restaurant, the Card and Conference Room, and the Library have each been comprehensively revamped. New carpets throughout the ship and refurbished corridors have also invigorated public spaces. All guest suites have been upgraded and balcony floors have been enhanced. Outdoors, decks have been renovated and furniture has been replaced.

The announcement of Silver Wind’s second refurbishment follows the news that Silversea Cruises has signed agreements for three new ships. Guests can also expect more enhancements to Silversea’s fleet in the near future, the cruise line said.
