The Latest in African Safaris

We’re yet to hear about someone who went on an African safari and say it didn’t change their life. If you’re looking for the latest and greatest — for repeat or first-time clients — here’s what you need to know:

In southeastern Zimbabwe, the Singita Malilangwe House received a makeover. Each of the five bedrooms in the sole-use villa has its own private deck, while the master bedroom has a shower with a large, automated panel of frameless glass that drops away to create an indoor-outdoor experience (yes, please!). We like the rim-flow pool perched on the “extreme edge” or the villa’s cliffside setting. Good to know: In-room yoga and massages are available upon request. Advisors may reach out to Hazel Stuart (hazel.s@singita.com), reservations manager.

Phinda Mountain Lodge’s bar has an extended deck with plenty of seating and views of the reserve.

andBeyond’s flagship lodge in South Africa, the Phinda Mountain Lodge, is also sporting an entirely new look. Zulu heritage will now be on full display throughout the property (think: Zulu beadwork, thatch roofs with exposed beams and plenty of framed local art). Guest suites have a new configuration to allow for a more open (and light-filled) space. We love the new feature bar serving artisanal spirits and South African wines; the best place to enjoy the drinks, however, is out on the extended deck, which offers plenty of seating. Also new is a rim-flow swimming pool, gym, massage sala and wine cellar for private dinners.

Lastly, in Botswana, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection will open the Xigera Safari Lodge in 2020. The $35 million project will have 12 suspended suites with spacious bathrooms, outdoor showers and decks complete with daybeds. The library will host specialists and wildlife documentary screenings. There will also be a swimming pool, gym, bar and wine cellar, and an interactive kitchen and dining room.
