Barrière and Loulou Join Forces

Groupe Lucien Barrière has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Loulou Groupe. This collaboration brings together two French families, each with a history of creating memorable places and mastering the art of hospitality.

As the majority shareholder, Groupe Lucien Barrière will join founders Gilles and Claire Malafosse, along with associates Pierre-Antoine Capton and Jean-Philippe Cartier, in leading Loulou Groupe.

Heir to the family know-how of generations of Parisian restaurateurs, Loulou has quickly established venues at notable locations: in Paris at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in Ramatuelle on Pampelonne Beach, and in Roquebrune Cap-Martin on the Riviera.

In the space of a decade, its founders have taken it upon themselves to develop a singular brand that cultivates authenticity.

Barrière, founded in 1912 by François André, is synonymous with luxury hotels and leisure activities. Joy Desseigne-Barrière and Alexandre Barrière represent the 4th generation of this century-old family-owned French group, committed to preserving and expanding its heritage both in France and internationally.

As a major player in the restaurant business, Barrière has made its 150 bars and restaurants a key asset in its growth strategy, as illustrated by the openings of its own brand — the Fouquet's, a brasserie created in 1899 by Louis Fouquet on the corner of the Champs-Elysées and Avenue George V — in New York, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Group is counting on strong brands to reinforce its growth momentum.

The development strategy of both companies begins immediately, with the ambitious aim of strengthening their respective positions in the high-end foodservice market.

With Loulou, the Barrière Group enriches its portfolio of spectacular addresses. Loulou Groupe can now rely on a Barrière’s recognized expertise and will have all the cards in hand to continue inventing the new codes of the restaurant business. To this end, the Barrière group is renewing its confidence in the management team that will work to develop the Loulou brand and its range of venues.

This partnership will strengthen the Loulou brand, its authenticity and its know-how in the face of increasingly standardized concepts.

A new Loulou will open in Courchevel on December 6, in the heart of the Hôtel Barrière Les Neiges, a Palace nestled at an altitude of 1850 m, at the foot of the slopes. In a bespoke Savoyard ambience created by architect Corinne Sachot, guests will be able to enjoy the great Loulou classics revisited in Piedmont style.
