Heads up, fashionistas! Ubiquitous British fashion house Alexander McQueen has tapped artist Damien Hirst—he who created the diamond-encrusted platinum cast of a human skull as a memorable objet d'art—to create 30 limited-edition scarves to celebrate 10 years of the British brand's signature skull-print scarf (pictured).
According to the Telegraph, the designs will see aspects of Hirst's 'Entomology' series, which uses colorful insects to create kaleidoscopic artwork, worked into the signature skull motif. The skull-print scarf has become an iconic McQueen piece ever since it was first showcased by the brand's late eponymous founder as part of the spring/summer collection ten years ago.
Women's Wear Daily is reporting that the scarves will be available in chiffon, pongé, twill and cashmere, with prices starting at approximately $476.50. They will be available from mid-November at Alexander McQueen boutiques and at the brand’s online scarf boutique at alexandermcqueen.com.
Frankly, we say spending less than $500 for a piece of fashion artwork by these two legends is a bargain. That diamond-encrusted skull reportedly sold for upwards of $77 million to a private collector. Go grab those scarves quick!
