The JW Marriott in Cancun has multiple pools and plenty of beach for family fun. |
Sun and sand certainly make for a fantastic family vacation, but it is the extra hotel amenities and over-the-top touches that can truly set a beach getaway apart. Families looking to jet away together for some quality surf time can’t go wrong with these two hotels in Mexico.
The spa at JW Marriott has treatments for kids ages six to 15. |
The JW Marriot Cancun Resort & Spa will wow your family travelers. Here’s why: the suites. If you want to impress everyone in the family, be sure to book the JW Luxury Suite, the Caribbean Suite or the Grand Ocean Front Suite. Tip: For something truly special, book one of the Presidential Suites, which encompass 4,115 square feet of both indoor and outdoor space; a king-sized bed plus a sofa bed; a dining room and living room; a master bathroom with a whirlpool; and ocean views.
If the suites are unavailable, families can book one of the 54 connecting rooms.
Note: JW Marriott Cancun’s Club 91 is an elite “boutique” hotel within the hotel. Those who book in Club 91 have tailored services for guests seeking an even more VIP experience (think private concierge, airport transfers, complimentary access to the spa and five meals per day for two adults and two children under six).
For questions, reach out to Director of Tour and Travel Yayoi Shibayama (yayoi.shibayama@marriotthotels.com; +52-555-999-0078).
After a full day of basking in the sun, it may be a good idea to book family time at the spa (yes, the spa has treatments for kids ages six to 15). The 35,000-square-foot, Mayan-inspired spa has 17 treatment rooms and also houses a fitness center, an aerobics room, a spa salon, an indoor lap pool and Jacuzzi, and a health/juice bar.
For adults, the most requested treatments are the Kin Ahau Blend Massage or the Balche treatment. For kids, guests can book the Refreshing Teen Facial, manicures and pedicures, aromatherapy or pre-teen skincare treatments. Tip: Alejandro Torres and Juan Carlos are the most requested masseurs. To book spa appointments, reach out to Spa Director Erick Blanco (erick.blanco@marriotthotels.com; +52-988-848-9700).
Fairmont Oceanfront Bungalows are secluded enclaves that have a private patio and plunge pool. |
Be sure to book a table at the AAA Four-Diamond Gustino Restaurant, which serves Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. (We hear the roasted rack of lamb is to die for.) You can also dine at Sedona Grill, where the coffee-rubbed filet mignon is always a crowd pleaser. Reach out to Marketing Coordinator Maria Gayol (maria.gayol@marriotthotels.com; +52-998-881-2007) for the best seat in the house.
Looking for something even more special? Reach out to Chief Concierge Rogelio Valadez (jwconcierge@marriotthotels.com; +52-998-848-9600). We hear he is a whiz at creating special amenities, like gifts and flowers through room service. He can also arrange personal tours around the Yucatan Peninsula, and if mom and dad need alone time he can schedule a romantic dinner for two.
Coming Soon: This summer, the resort will be debuting a “teens-only” beachfront space, the Teen Lounge. The venue will have Foosball and ping pong tables, televisions and video games, music, a beverage bar and plenty of lounge space.
If your clients are heading off to Mexico’s Pacific Coast, we recommend families stay at The Fairmont Pierre Marques (www.fairmont.com) in Acapulco. When booking the resort, we say the Bungalows are tops for family travelers. The secluded enclave of VIP accommodations offers privacy, but is also close to the Revolcadero beach and the resort’s common amenities. We love that the Bungalows have a private patio and plunge pool. For bookings that require special attention, such as requesting connecting rooms for the kids, reach out to Director of Sales Antonio Vera (antonio.vera@fairmont.com).
Like most Fairmont properties, The Fairmont Pierre Marques is well equipped to handle families with children. Kids ages four through 12 have access to the @Play Kids’ Club, Turtle Camp, Kid’s Golf and Kid’s Spa, along with aquatic activities at the beach and pool.
The Fairmont Pierre Marques provides many options for family travelers, including Bungalow accommodations with private pools. |
Great for families: At all Fairmont hotels, children five and under eat free from the kids’ menu. Children ages six to 11 eat for half price from the regular menu. We also hear that the brand has expanded its Lifestyle Cuisine program to its children’s menus.
The resort has four dining options for guests. Tabachin is a AAA Four-Diamond restaurant, serving Mediterranean cuisine, wines, cocktails and tequila. For traditional Mexican, we say opt for La Terraza. Casual diners will feel most at home at Pierre’s Café & Delicatessen, which serves a selection of wines, cheeses, cold cuts, salads and more. Mom and dad may enjoy winding down at Pierre Bar for sunset views and tropical cocktails.
Good to know: Guests have access to the Willow Stream Spa located at the sister property, The Fairmont Acapulco Princess. The spa is 14,000 square feet with 17 treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, fitness center and more. For bookings, contact Director of Willow Stream Spa Gabriela Cerdio de Leon (gabriela.cerdio@fairmont.com; +52-744-469-1000, ext. 4790).
For those clients that you really want to wow, reach out to Chief Concierge Hector Anica (hector.anica@fairmont.com) in advance to arrange unique family activities.
