African Travel: Giving Back in Africa With ME to WE

Travelers looking to make a difference can do so in Kenya’s northern Maasai Mara. A complement to a safari adventure, African Travel, Inc’s ME to WE Adventure is a four-day journey where guests can take a deep dive in to the country’s culture, community and vibrant landscape.

In partnering with ME to WE, a social enterprise enabling people to do good, African Travel gives guests the opportunity to contribute directly to sustainable development.

It works like this: At Bogani Cottages and Tented Camp, Maasai Mara National Reserve, guests learn about sustainability through a ME to WE orientation. A better understanding of the culture and community life is discovered by spending time with the mamas at Emori Joi and going on a water walk, and by working alongside Maasai and Kipsigis community members, helping to build a new school. A visit to a local market and the Baraka Medical Client and Medicinal Garden is a chance to learn about the economic environment, say company executives.

The final morning begins with a sunrise hike with Maasai guides before returning to Nairobi for a farewell lunch, followed by a visit to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the first and most successful elephant orphan rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.

When clients book an East Africa itinerary, a contribution is made in their name toward a child’s education.

To book the ME to WE adventure as a stand-alone or to combine it with any safari option, contact Marsha Carroll (marshac@africantravelinc.com; 800-421-8907, ext. 1941), safari specialist.
