The inaugural Ultimate Waterman Challenge (UWC) is debuting in Los Cabos this August, bringing a four-day celebration of adventure, music, wellness and philanthropy.
From August 24 to 27, there will be water sports exhibitions with industry professionals which will include a surf competition, aerial surf shows, spearfishing challenges and stand-up paddle boarding. There will also be live music played on The Cape, a Thompson Hotel’s sixth-story rooftop lounge. All exhibition events will be free to the public, though there is a requested $10 donation for rooftop concerts.
This inaugural event comes in conjunction with The Cape, professional surfers Tim Curran and Rob Machado, Los Cabos local and adventure/tour operator Alex Vidal of InCabo Travel, the Los Cabos Tourism Board and Quiksilver surf shop.
UWC is committed to recycling, composting and sustainably managing 100 percent of the trash accumulated from the event, the release said, in an effort to “preserve the natural environs it calls home.” Continuing these initiatives, there will be a cycling or “pedal power” program to support energy needs and to reduce the event’s carbon footprint and will commence in a volunteer-led beach cleanup effort. Ninety percent of the event’s promotional materials will be digitized and a portion of the proceeds from event sponsors are set to go to support Desarrollo Integral de la Familia, a local Cabo charity dedicated to serving special needs children and families.
