London Dish: Kerridge’s Bar & Grill at The Corinthia

The most buzzed-about restaurant in London is Kerridge’s Bar & Grill at Corinthia Hotel London. It's the new outpost of English chef and cookbook author Tom Kerridge, who originally made his name by creating the first pub to ever receive two Michelin-stars: The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, a village about 45 minutes west of London. Kerridge has since written several best-selling books, appeared on MasterChef, opened a second “walk-ins” pub, The Coach, and a butcher in Marlow, as The Hand and Flowers remains continually booked up one year ahead.

Not surprisingly, his first London opening created a veritable Instagram feed frenzy with photogenic dishes, including Glazed Omelette ‘Lobster Thermidor,’ Deep Fried Halibut (London’s fanciest fish and chips), and a Mandarin Soufflé with Frosted Sourdough Crumb, piquing our interest. Fortunately, Kerridge’s lives up to the hype. We enjoyed the famous dishes—the lobster, lusciously creamy; the fish and chips, deliciously crispy; and the fluffy soufflé—but Instagram didn’t prepare us for the best part: The rotisserie. Nothing to do with the rotisserie in your supermarket, this beast has about a dozen rotating grills cooking everything from meat to veggies. It’s a showstopper, so much so there are four seats for dining in front of the ovens. Unquestionably, the sides of Garlic Roasted Savoy Cabbage and the Truffled Celeriac (called celery knob in America), were the most memorable dishes, the flavors charred and earthy, the rotisserie bringing out the natural creaminess of the vegetables, the lamb was also tremendously flavorful.

The high ceilinged room is painted a deep green with clever modern art throughout (Kerridge’s wife is sculptor Beth Cullen Kerridge), and tables are arranged in such a way that there’s not a bad seat in the house.  Bookings can be made three months in advance; there’s also walk-in seating at the bar and by the rotisserie; plus a private room that can seat 18.
