Major Renovation Means New Hot Spots at Marco Island Marriott

The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort recently stopped by our New York office to tell us about the recently completed first stage of a $300 million renovation. When the renovation is completed in January 2017, the updates will turn Marco Island into a JW Marriott resort. It will be the first beachfront property the brand has in the continental U.S.

Tiki Bar, KANE

However, beachgoers don’t have to wait a whole year to enjoy new top-notch amenities on the property. We think, there’s no better place to relax in the sun than the new beachside Tiki bar, KANE (opening this January). We know, we know, but before you brush it off as just another place for beach bums, pay attention. KANE will have a mighty fine collection of rum, including high-end dark, aged, white and flavored. There will also be the staple, the flaming Tiki bowls that guests can sip, while their toes are directly in the sand. And, we hear that popular nighttime entertainment may be moved from other areas at the resort to this bar. That means you’ll come for a daytime drink and never want to leave. This is where the party will be.

For another exciting culinary experience, head to Marco for the new ARIO restaurant. This eatery opened about a month ago, and has created a lot of buzz ever since. Executive Chef Gerald Sombright runs an open kitchen concept here and serves locally caught seafood, in-house dry aged steaks and international wines. Though it’s not about the meal so much as it is about the experience. Guests can choose from special dining options, like a wine tasting room that seats up to 12 people. The private wine tastings will be lead by the in-house sommelier and will include specially paired dishes to go along with the wine.

Ario

We are most intrigued by the chef's table, which seats up to eight people. The chef will meet each guest before the meal to learn about everyone’s personal likes and dislikes. Then he will create a special on the “whim” menu tailored to the guests. Guests can choose to have a five-, eight- or twelve-course meal, and wine pairings are available.
