New Boutique Hotels in Mexico City

Historic, hip urban and exciting, Mexico City continues to attract U.S. visitors for long weekend getaways. The ever-growing popularity of the city is also catching the eye of boutique hotel developers. Pendry Hotels & Resorts has announced the development of Pendry Mexico City and Pendry Residences Mexico City, scheduled to open in 2026 in the Roma Norte District.

Already open is the new Hotel Alexander, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, has just opened within the Torre Virreyes skyscraper in the city’s financial district and it has 26 suites filled with Italian furnishings. Did we mention that it’s also home to the first caviar bar in Mexico? (Think, Petrossian caviar and a curated selection of signature cocktails.) We hear that the five-star hotel also has a spa and a concierge that’s keen to provide access to services such as private yoga and sound healing. Hotel Alexander is ideal for bleisure activities. The only hotel  in the prestigious Lomas de Chapultepec business district, it’s also close to the vibrant neighborhoods of Reforma, Polanco and Chapultepec, which have contributed to Mexico City’s exciting buzz.

Good to know: The Caviar Bar’s mixology program, which is led by head bartender and mixologist Jonathan Botello Garcini, conjures up signature cocktails like the Alexander Martini, crafted with Belvedere 10 Vodka and served with a Kumamoto Oyster topped with Baeri Caviar. Yes, indeed.

Another newbie, Hotel Volga, is located in the historic Cuauhtémoc neighborhood just one block from the bustle of the Paseo de la Reforma. Being touted as “uber cool,” the luxury boutique hotel has 49 rooms and a rooftop pool. Note: Volga’s concept restaurant Elora, a project by Japanese-Mexican restaurateur Edo Kobayashi, is making waves in the neighborhood, as is Volga’s ultra exclusive subterranean MINOS lounge, which serves chic cocktails and light bites in a private music lounge.

The new Kimpton Virgilio is in the heart of the Polanco neighborhood (think upscale boutiques, renowned restaurants and cultural landmarks) and has 48 rooms. Management has created a useful program to see the city’s cultural sites with the “Museum Row Package,” which includes two tickets to the museum of one’s choice, as well as daily breakfast. Through the end of summer, Kimpton Virgilio’s signature Spanish tapas restaurant, Pepe, will serve the “Perfect Summer” cocktail, while the rooftop pool bar, La Caña, will offer the “Pisco Strawberry Spritz.” Additionally, the hotel will host a series of summer entertainment events, including a Flamenco show every Friday.

The St. Regis Mexico City opened eight new Garden Terrace Rooms and Suites earlier this year and they are being promoted as the first of their kind in Mexico City. They range from one to two bedrooms—and seven of them offer an outdoor terrace that overlooks Paseo de la Reforma.

Nice Touches: The Caroline Astor Garden Terrace Suite has a private outdoor infinity pool. This two-bedroom Presidential Suite has one king bed and two twin beds and can additionally connect to an adjacent two-bedroom suite. The total area spans 3,875 square feet and the large outdoor terrace is filled with greenery, plus a large infinity pool and private pergola with a seating area.

Beyond the Caroline Astor Garden Terrace Suite, the hotel’s Metropolitan Garden Terrace Suite (a Garden Terrace Executive Suite) spans 1,033 square feet. Its terrace offers seating and a Jacuzzi. Lastly, the Grand Deluxe Garden Terrace Suites also total 1,033 square feet. These come with a wooden pergola, an outdoor Jacuzzi and a fireplace on the terrace.

The rest of Mexico continues to thrive with new hotels, too. Banyan Group has opened Banyan Tree Veya, Valle de Guadalupe, a wellness resort set amid Mexico’s wine country. Accessible within 90 minutes from the U.S. border, the opening marks the first full-fledged property for the group’s wellbeing-focused brand, Banyan Tree Veya.

The hotel comprises a collection of 30 villas with private plunge pools, a variety of wellness experiences and an “ethnobotanical garden.” The resort also offers a private winery that will debut an exclusive collection of wines dedicated solely to Grenache, as well as several culinary outlets.
