JetBlue, United Airlines and Alaska Airlines have all announced several new routes to various Caribbean islands this winter.
JetBlue announced direct, year-round service from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to St. Kitts three times weekly beginning November 2, 2023. Operating on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, this brand-new flight service opens the island to the New York market like never before.
Alongside St. Kitts’ partnership with JetBlue, the tourism authority has extended its partnership with United Airlines. Beginning December 2, 2023, United will provide direct, non-stop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to St. Kitts through August before taking a hiatus until December. This development has supplemented the current flight offering with an additional four months of non-stop service.
(In addition, following the success of InterCaribbean Airlines’ flight from St. Kitts to Barbados, the airline has upgraded the aircraft from the 30-seater EMB 120 to the 48-seat ATR on a full-time basis, further improving regional connectivity.)
Also from JetBlue and into Barbados, starting November 1, 2023, the airline will introduce a second weekly flight from Boston Logan International Airport. This new flight option will run on Wednesdays, joining the existing Saturday service from Boston. As well, JetBlue will continue to offer its second daily flight from JFK to Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport through to February 2024.
Additionally, United announced plans to commence year-round service to Barbados. This marks a significant increase from what was previously only seasonal airlift (November through April), servicing Newark on Saturdays and Washington Dulles International Airport on Sundays.
JetBlue has also announced it will offer the first-ever nonstop flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Nassau, Bahamas’ Lynden Pindling International Airport. The flight will operate once weekly on Saturdays starting November 4. The new route will offer customers JetBlue’s Mint premium experience. This new service to Nassau is the airline’s first flight from the West Coast.
Alaska Airlines will also launch seasonal direct flights to the Bahamas capital beginning in December. From December 14, 2023, to April 10, 2024, visitors can fly nonstop with Alaska Airlines to Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport from Los Angeles International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The direct flights will operate four times a week from Los Angeles and three times a week from Seattle.
Good to know: Lynden Pindling International Airport offers TSA PreCheck as well as U.S. Customs and Immigration Preclearance (along with U.S. Global Entry), making it easy for those arriving in the destination to get through security and begin their vacation or arrive back home in a breeze.
As for Jamaica, the island will welcome new air service from Denver International Airport to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay starting on November 4, 2023, by United Airlines. Operating weekly on Saturdays, it will be the only carrier serving Jamaica non-stop from the Denver gateway. United will operate the non-stop flight utilizing the brand new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
