Peninsula Papagayo, a 1,400-acre residential and resort destination in the Guanacaste province in northwestern Costa Rica, is in for a major transformation by Gencom, a Miami-based international hospitality and residential real estate investment and development firm.
This investment signals the launch of a long-term plan to “connect and celebrate” the peninsula for the first time, bring “an unprecedented new level of meaningful eco-luxury and transformative experiences to the Americas,” Peninsula Papagayo said in a written release.
The transformation of the destination begins in December of 2017, when the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica will reopen its doors after having undergone a $35 million renovation.
Chief operating officer of Peninsula Papagayo Manuel Ardon said in the release that the enhancements underway at Peninsula Papagayo are significant not only to Costa Rica’s “flourishing tourism industry” that is important to the economy, but to the country’s position as “a thought-leader in the preservation and celebration of the native landscape and authentic local culture.” As a native Costa Rican, Ardon said that he is very grateful that the vision for the resort will bring more travelers from around the world to the biodiverse location.
Along with the renovation of the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, the peninsula will include a new network of more than eight miles of nature trails, a new Macaw sanctuary designed to cultivate the country’s native species through conservation and educational programming and an enhancement of Marina Papagayo, which is a 180-slip marina that is a premier destination for superyachts, equipped with a new restaurant and lounge, gourmet grocery market and a variety of new yacht charter offerings.
The restoration of Peninsula Papagayo will also include the enhancement of the resort’s golf club with an 18-hole Palmer Signature Course, five tennis courts and a signature restaurant; a new Papagayo Explorers Club, a program allowing travels to take part in active adventures, culture, wellness, fitness and volunteerism ranging from spinner dolphin explorations, mountain biking, pottery sessions with local artisans and cheese making; a continued investment in the growth of Creciendo Juntos, a nonprofit association founded by the resort in support of the development of local Guanacaste communities including schools and a children’s clinic through educational, health and leadership programs; and continued focus on sustainability and land preservation through the growth of environmental, maritime, archaeological, social and educational initiatives and an increased investment in research and development of new programs.
Peninsula Papagayo is located 30 minutes from Liberia International Airport (Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport), which offers more than 100 weekly flights seasonally from major cities in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and across Central America.
