Post-Golf Activities in Los Cabos

At the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos is an oft-celebrated golf destination; with 15 courses currently open and more on the way, the region has been dubbed "Latin America's Golf Capital." The golf destination has an ideal climate, with 340 sunny days per year and interesting course layouts by the game’s top designers throughout the region’s mountain-desert-ocean environment.

However, even the most avid golfers need to take a break from the game. Fortunately, Los Cabos has an array of post-golf activities that players and their non-player families or entourages can take advantage of. Here are five suggestions for golfers and their fellow travelers to consider on their next golf vacation to Los Cabos:

Deep Sea Fishing

Besides being a major golf destination, Los Cabos—nicknamed “Marlin Alley—“ is a premier sport-fishing location. More big-game fish are caught in Los Cabos than anywhere else in the world, with catch-and-release being the general rule for billfish. The season for blue and black marlin runs from June through December, while striped marlins are plentiful year-round. Sail fish season occurs from  April through October. Tuna, dorado, wahoo and roosterfish are among the prized species that swim in Cabo’s waters. Inshore fishing is also popular on pangas, a 22-foot Baja skiff.

Nightlife

For those who want to celebrate when the sun goes down, Cabo San Lucas is the spot. Restaurants are generally open until midnight, but the town’s bars and clubs stay open until 3 a.m. or later. The region’s party capital has local hang-outs, dance clubs, live music venues and cantinas. Popular venues include Cabo Wabo, Pink Kitty, El Squid Roe, Mandala and Nowhere Bar.

Whale Watching

From early December through mid-March, hundreds of whales migrate 6,000 miles from the Arctic Ocean to the warm waters of the Baja Peninsula. The bays and lagoons around Los Cabos are natural spots for whales to birth and rear their young. Of the eight whale species that venture to Los Cabos, the most common and popular are the humpback whales, which often spout and breach close to shores. There are a number of whale watching excursions that depart from Cabo San Lucas marina.

Art Walk in San Jose del Cabo

Each Thursday evening from November through June, San Jose del Cabo’s historic Art District hosts an Art Walk from 5 to 9 p.m., which allows visitors to view the works of the artists and artisans who live in San Jose del Cabo. Art galleries open their doors and welcome all visitors, with music street shows and wine tastings to accompany the festivities.

Parasailing

Cabo Expeditions, a top parasailing outfitter will assist travelers in getting a birds-eye view of the Pacific Ocean. A boat staff from the marina in Cabo San Lucas will take parasailers out into the bay, fit them into the harness and pull them 600 feet into the air to get a perspective of sites like El Arco (the Arch), Land’s End and Lover’s Beach.
