With a total of 76 starred restaurants and 90 Michelin stars, Baden-Württemberg, also known as SouthWest Germany, maintains its top position in the German gourmet landscape. From north to south and east to west, SouthWest Germany presents excellent food from Michelin stars to Bib Gourmands.
At the presentation of the new edition of the Michelin Guide last week in the Karlsruhe Concert Hall, numerous restaurants in southern Germany were able to celebrate new stars. Two restaurants made it into the Michelin two-star league: In the host city of Karlsruhe, Thorsten Bender's team from the sein received the second star. At the Schluchsee, the Mühle celebrated its promotion to the exclusive circle of two-star kitchens with head chef Niclas Nussbaumer.
There was a lot of movement among the restaurants decorated with one Michelin star, with nine climbers in this category coming from Baden-Württemberg. The South also swept up the awards for special achievements by the restaurant teams: Christophe Meyer from Le Pavillon in Bad Peterstal-Griesbach received the award for outstanding sommelier achievements. The Young Chef Award went to Alina Meissner-Bebrout, head chef at Ulm's bi:braud, which received a star for the first time this year.
For Karlsruhe, the Michelin Guide ceremony was the start of a year full of moments of pleasure. The Baden metropolis is taking the star award as an opportunity to celebrate the year 2023 under the motto “Karlsruhe. Have you tried it?” Its offerings are fun and plentiful. Gourmet restaurants, fun bars with imaginative cocktails and mocktails; relaxing beer gardens; creative ice cream shops; tastings; cooking courses; experiences, such as Eat the World in one city; picnics; and culinary tours are all on offer.
"Karlsruhe fits in wonderfully with our annual theme this year, 'The taste of the South,’" says Andreas Braun, managing director of Tourismus Marketing GmbH Baden-Württemberg (TMBW). "With its sun-drenched location and the many creative businesses, the city can boast a high-quality culinary offer." The extensive annual program promises culinary city tours, wine seminars and beer events or the Karlsruhe Festival of the Senses at the end of April. The fan-shaped city invites guests to rediscover its variety of pleasures and Baden hospitality.
