Barbara Khan of Protravel International traveled to the United Kingdom for 20 days recently where she visited with friends and spent a full week on a fam tour. She kindly took the time to share details of her many adventures with us.
In Part 1 of this three-part series, she shares her experiences flying on Virgin Atlantic, enjoying some hidden gems in London with a friend who lives there, and traveling around on a BritRail pass. Khan loved the vibrancy and character of Manchester with its many walking streets lined with pubs and shops, and, as a book lover, cherished her time at the oldest library in the city, which looks like it would fit perfectly into a Harry Potter film.
In Wales, Khan and the group visited a Victorian seaside resort filled with boutique hotels and notes that the country is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds visiting Europe this year.
The next stop was Liverpool and a stay in the Hard Day’s Night Hotel. Of course, there were visits to several of the iconic Beatles landmarks but Khan also, surprisingly, says she enjoyed a visit to Anfield Stadium, home to the Liverpool Football Club.
The Lake District did not disappoint and is definitely a locale Khan would like to return to; here, she also found one of her favorite hotels ever. To learn what it is and more, check out Luxury Travel Advisor VP/Editorial Director Ruthanne Terrero's interview with Khan (and be sure to have a pen and pad in hand to take notes on the many tips she shares with us).
This segment ends up in Edinburgh but be sure to watch for Parts 2 and 3 of this series for a really deep dive into Edinburgh and some great details on her return to Liverpool where she visited with a friend and got to savor some of the cultural arts in this seafaring city.
