Good news from Spain: After the closure of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum as dictated by local authorities on March 14 as a way to contain the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the two museums have announced they will reopen Monday, June 1.
The museums have coordinated their hours for the first month of operation and prioritized maximum accessibility of their cultural proposals by being open every day of the week and providing ample hours where the two institutions’ schedules are complementary. This way, citizens can enjoy a visit to either one of the museums between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
In June, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will be open Monday through Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. In July and August hours will expand to cover every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, on the other hand, will open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and from 4 to 7 p.m. in June. More hours are scheduled for July and August by also opening every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In the present circumstances, these hours may be subject to change, which would be announced. Each museum will also be announcing shortly their services and protocols to guarantee a safe visit for everyone. Until then, both museums are getting ready for their upcoming reopening.
