The Principality of Monaco is beckoning visitors with a range of events, restaurant openings and exhibitions throughout the summer and early autumn. Here’s a round-up of events and activities to schedule during your next visit.
The “Monaco Yacht Show” is held in Port Hercules and makes available superyachts for purchase or charter. The show has two main exhibition areas: Afloat and on the quayside. Afloat, over 100 superyachts and over 50 luxury tenders are displayed by builders and brokers, while 450 hand-picked companies exhibit on the quayside. This year, the show will be held from September 28 to October 1. It will have three new exhibition areas, including the sustainability hub, the adventure area, and the design and innovation hub.
Nearby, the Italian restaurant group Big Mamma has launched Giacomo, a seaside restaurant. Located on Larvotto beach, Giacomo serves seasonal Italian dishes, desserts and cocktails. Guests can opt to dine at the restaurant’s Capri-style terrace facing the sea or in a bright red room. In other F&B news, Michelin-starred sushi restaurant Yoshi is taking up residence by the edge of the pool at The Odyssey until September 24. The setting has been designed by Karl Lagerfeld and guests can enjoy a gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Takeo Yamazaki and his team. The food is accompanied by sakés, whiskey or green teas.
Other restaurants which have recently opened in Monaco include Mozzafiato, located in La Condamine; Maison Fonton on the Port of Frontville; Niwaki, located at Palais de la Plage in Larvotto; and La Môme on the roof of Hôtel Port Palace in Monte Carlo.
The Oceanographic Museum has launched a “Polar Mission” exhibition with five thematic areas, spread over two levels. From the discovery of the Poles to the wildlife and people they shelter, objects, documents, digital content and sensory devices are combined to create a 360-degree experience. Each visitor plays the role of a field reporter on a polar mission. They trigger content and information throughout their visit via their entrance ticket. Separately, the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco has announced “Newton Riviera,” an exhibition dedicated to Australian photographer, Helmut Newton. Running until November 13, the exhibition will feature numerous portraits. Newton’s work recounts four decades of artistic creativity on the French Riviera through 280 images.
Also from the art world: After being displayed in Paris, Bordeaux, Caen and Geneva, it is now Monaco’s turn to host “Le Chat déambule,” or the “Statue of Cats,” by cartoonist sculptor Phillip Geluck. Organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, the exhibition will run until October 2, unveiling 20 bronze sculptures, each nearly nine feet in height and weighing nearly two and a half tons.
After two years of closure, the Prince’s Palace State Apartments has reopened its doors for the season. The reopening has been marked by two major events: The refurbishment of the Grand Apartments and the unveiling of the newly restored frescoes from the Italian Renaissance. The 13th-century palace has been extended and renovated several times over the centuries.
After last year’s success of the show “Bohemia,” the 8 Stars Monaco team, led by Nicolas Jelmoni, have launched “Delirious,” a cabaret show incorporating circus, acrobatics, live music, theater and comedy. Set in front of the Grimaldi Forum, the show is performed in a large tent, which has a dance floor and a series of tables that can be booked by visitors.
