The historic Blantyre estate in Lenox, Massachusetts has long been a destination for well-heeled urbanites from New York and Boston seeking a country escape in the Berkshires. Situated amidst 100 acres of woodland in western Massachusetts, Blantyre has a storied pedigree: it is one of the last remaining Gilded Age mansions in the U.S., and the hotel was the first U.S. property to become a member of Relais & Châteaux. It’s also an ideal launch pad for exploring the region’s world-class museums, dining scene, music festivals, galleries and—in the autumn—leaf-peeping opportunities galore.
The big news for Blantyre is new owner Linda S. Law, a Silicon Valley real estate developer, will relaunch Blantyre in April 2018 with Ocean House Management Collection following a multi-million dollar renovation. Blantyre will be the sister hotel to Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
What’s in store with the refurbishment? All 23 accommodations units—eight guest rooms in the Main House, eleven suites in the Carriage House and four expansive cottages—will show off a completely new look, combining “old world glamour” with chic, contemporary accents. The color palette will include touches of blues, grays, greens and lavender. Expect new fabrics, furnishings and modern conveniences.
There will also be two new restaurants. Tuck into classic dishes, celebrating locally sourced ingredients, at the French-style Blantyre Bistro. Or opt for a fine dining experience at the Conservatory at Blantyre, equipped with an outdoor terrace overlooking the lawns. Tip: Don’t skip the wine. Blantyre has one of the biggest private wine cellars in the region with 10,000 bottles, and a new private tasting room will offer opportunities to browse (and taste!).
Last but not least: The renovation project includes the debut of a new spa, complete with four treatment rooms, sauna and Eucalyptus steam room, relaxation lounge with Vitality Bar, fitness center and meditation garden.
