Overlooking arguably the best beach on the island of Mauritius, One&Only Le Saint Géran closed its doors on February 1 for a top-to-bottom overhaul. Over the years, the luxury resort—one of the original in Mauritius—has developed a loyal following of international jetsetters who appreciate its extensive amenities and hallmark service. Not to mention the location—situated on its own private peninsula on the northeast coast, surrounded by white sandy beaches, coral reefs and crystal-clear waters.
The comprehensive makeover will introduce new guestrooms and suites, F&B experiences, swimming pools, and fitness/spa offerings. The resort is expected to reopen in late 2017.
In fact, every guestroom will get a redo. New furnishings and fabrics will have a color palette reflecting the surrounding landscapes: tropical greens, Indian Ocean blues, and bleached-sand white. Views will be enhanced, while an array of amenities will create a feeling of home (in-room pantries, all the latest technology). Another fun detail? The attention paid to the bathrooms. To quote the official website, “And because we believe the bathroom is the new bedroom, a show-stopping marble-lined haven with indulgent shower and stand-alone bath will offer its own oceanic outlook.” One&Only Le Saint Géran will also be unveiling private residences.
All the restaurants will be redesigned, adding outdoor dining options and new experiences like a Pan-Asian spot with a tapas and teppan bar. A family swimming pool will be added at Palm Grove, so that the resort will offer three different pools dedicated to different clients (couples, families, spa). There will also be a new lounge bar, and two new meeting rooms. Last but not least: KidsOnly, the spa and fitness center are also being renovated.
