Zimbabwe is back on the map as a sought-after safari destination in Africa. And if you’re planning an adventure to explore this beautiful corner of the world, here’s a tip: Wilderness Safaris—the renowned ecotourism operator that was founded in Botswana in 1983—has announced the renovation of Davison’s Camp. Comprised of nine Meru-style tents and one family accommodation, the camp is situated in the private Linkwasha Concession in Hwange National Park. This is one of the best game-viewing areas in the entire park, as Davison’s camp overlooks an open plain and waterhole.
Davison’s Camp is all about rustic elegance. Though staying true to the camp’s ethos, the makeover means a refreshed look and significant upgrades. New canvas walls and coconut cemcrete floors in the tents and plenty of luxurious fabrics and furniture have been added. Most of the decor was sourced locally (think: Rattan chairs, Bamaleke stools and lots of woven baskets). Interior designer Sharon Milstead took inspiration from the remote, natural setting of the camp, and therefore chose earth tones, raw materials like cane and ethnic Shoowa and Kuba raffia cloth.
Dean Morton, Wilderness Safaris Zambezi operations manager, said, “We are truly proud to have remained committed to our Hwange operations since 1997, never compromising on our commitment to our conservation projects in the Park. Davison’s has always been a gem in the heart of Hwange and we are delighted to have been able to reinvest into the camp.”
