Thailand bound? Keen on Koh Samui? Here’s a welcome piece of travel news. Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort, situated on the quiet northern end of Chaweng Beach, will soon reopen after a thorough renovation. The resort has announced a reopening date of December 10—just in time for the busy end-of-year holiday season.
Known for its spa, treehouse restaurant and spacious accommodations (rooms start at a generous 560 square feet), the Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort will soon be showing off its spruced-up rooms. Each of the 122 guestrooms, suites and private pool villas have been upgraded with new furniture, fabrics and state-of-the-art technology. The design is described as a “contemporary Sino-Thai style,” reflecting Koh Samui’s Chinese settler heritage.
Here’s the rundown: The 44 Deluxe Plunge Pool rooms now have larger pools and enlarged terraces with sun beds and overwater swings.
The 11 Anantara Pool Villas and six Anantara Seaview Pool Villas take their new design inspiration from Koh Samui’s coconut farmers, while the 16 Deluxe Pool Access Rooms pay homage to Samui fisherman (hanging mosquito nets resemble a fisherman’s net and stylish table lamps are shaped like traditional fisherman’s tools).
Top tip: The crème de la crème of accommodations—the two-bedroom Lawana Pool Villa—is showing off a lavish look; think Chinese antiques, hand-painted ceramic lamps and a sprawling outdoor terrace with loungers taking in unrivaled views of Chawang Beach.
Other highlights of the revamp include a newly landscaped garden in the Anantara spa and new flooring at the restaurants including the Ocean Kiss restaurant on the beach.
