Accor and Ennismore's Mondrian Brand Set to Debut in Portugal

The Mondrian brand is making a lifestyle hotel splash on the Iberian Peninsula with an expected expansion to Portugal.

Ennismore and Bondstone have announced plans to bring Mondrian Arcaya to the Algarve, with a 2028 debut set within Arcaya, Bondstone’s new development in Vilamoura. The 120-key hotel, including 30 luxury suites, will mark Mondrian’s first property in Portugal, extending the design-forward brand’s rapid global expansion across some of the world’s most in-demand lifestyle destinations.

“This is a major step forward for the Mondrian brand and a proud moment for Ennismore,” Phil Zrihen, head of Americas and brand COO for Mondrian at Ennismore, said in a statement. “Portugal, and the Algarve in particular, offers the ideal setting for our first property in the country thanks to its rich culture, stunning landscape, and a globally sought-after lifestyle. Together with Bondstone, we're creating something that will resonate with both international travellers and the local community."

Mondrian Arcaya is more than "just" a resort. Set within the eco-conscious, mixed-use Arcaya community, the hotel will offer immersive dining, wellness, and cultural programming, all designed to reflect the Algarve’s natural beauty and creative spirit.

Three restaurants and bars will anchor the culinary experience, including a rooftop restaurant with ocean views, a poolside bar, and an all-day dining and lobby concept. Guest experiences will extend beyond the plate, with curated wellness spaces, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and three tranquil pools for elevated relaxation.

Mondrian’s hallmark connection to local art and design will be on full display, as the property partners with cultural institutions and creatives across the region for bespoke events and activations.

“This partnership reflects Bondstone's mission to develop places that combine beauty, purpose, and longevity," Paulo Loureiro, CEO of Bondstone, said in a statement. "Arcaya will be a living, breathing community—open year-round, rooted in nature, and designed for a new generation seeking inspiration, wellbeing, and meaningful connection. Mondrian will be a central pillar of this vision."

Global Growth for a Culturally Curious Brand

The announcement comes at a high-growth moment for Mondrian, a brand rooted in art and design. Known for dreamy interiors and inventive dining scenes, Mondrian now has 11 open properties and a growing development pipeline that includes Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bucharest, and the Maldives.

Mondrian Arcaya follows recent high-profile openings in Ibiza and Australia’s Gold Coast and joins a portfolio that spans cities like Singapore, Cannes, and Seoul. Further, it comes at a time when Accor — which has a majority stake in Ennismore — is making additional inroads on the Algarve coast with a planned Fairmont conversion currently in the works.

Portugal’s appeal as a luxury destination continues to soar, with a record-setting 33 million international visitors projected for 2025, according to IPDT. The addition of Mondrian to the Algarve aligns with that upward momentum and further positions the region not just as a sun-and-sea retreat, but as a global capital for design-driven hospitality.

2028 can't come soon enough.
