Alila Hotels and Resorts is known for superlative settings. There’s a fort-turned-hotel in India’s Rajasthan region, a tropical island in Cambodia and a resort clinging to a clifftop in Oman, to name a few. “The hallmark of Alila,” to quote the official website, “is the combination of innovative design and crafted luxury in unique locations, set apart by an unprecedented level of personalized hospitality, private spaces and bespoke journeys.” Acquired by Hyatt Hotels Corporation in late 2018, the Alila portfolio is 20 properties strong, with locations in Indonesia, India, China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Oman and the U.S. Soon to join the mix will be a resort in the Gruyère region of Switzerland.
This will be the first Alila-branded property in Europe, when it debuts in 2023, Hyatt announced this week. Beyond the world-famous cheese, the Gruyère region in western Switzerland is known for beautiful scenery, medieval towns, and chocolate factories. Alila La Gruyère will be located in Pont-la-Ville, overlooking the lake.
Facilities will include an 18-hole golf course redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and an expansive wellness retreat. Alongside the 85 guestrooms will be a mix of residences, and guests will be offered an array of authentic experiences to immerse themselves in the destination. The fine dining will also be a showcase for the region, as the chefs will source seasonal produce from the surrounding agricultural area. True to Alila’s brand philosophy, there will also be a focus on green, sustainable tourism.
