Aman has announced its next "island destination" will be in the heart of the most famous city in the world: New York. The company’s newest luxury resort will be called Aman New York, and is scheduled to open in 2020. The property will blend the vibrant pulse of the city with the soul of Aman, joining Aman Tokyo as the brand’s second urban destination.
The new spot in New York—located in Midtown at the crossroads of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, overlooking Central Park—will be the company’s third U.S. property after Amangiri and Amangani. Aman New York will occupy the iconic Crown Building and will house the first urban Aman Residences, a collection of 20 private homes.
The historic building will undergo a considerable transformation and a full restoration in preparation of Aman’s scheduled opening in three years. The new resort will be designed by renowned architect Jean-Michel Gathy, a long-time collaborator with Aman and lead designer of some of the most well-known Aman resorts including Amanyara in the Turks and Caicos, Amanwana on the island of Moyo in Indonesia, Aman Sveti in Montenegro, and Aman Venice.
In total, Aman New York will have 83 guestrooms and suites, three dining venues, a comprehensive spa, 20 private Aman Residences on the upper floors, and an extensive, five-story park-view Penthouse at the very top of the building. There will also be an Aman Member’s Club, where Aman New York will house facilities exclusively for the use of its members.
The 22,000-square-foot spa will have an 80-foot indoor swimming pool flanked by alcoves of daybeds and fire pits. It will also have a spacious double treatment room, sauna and steam rooms complemented by hot and cold plunge pools, and an outdoor terrace with cabana, daybed and fireplace.
Good to know: The Penthouse will have a wraparound terrace and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. All residences, some with outdoor terraces with heated pools, will be fully serviced by Aman, and residents will have access to a Members’ Lounge, in addition to the use of all hotel facilities.
