Aman has put a name to its long-awaited Maldives debut. The 52-key resort and 16 branded residences taking shape in the Vaavu Atoll will open in 2028 as Amanolu, marrying the brand’s Sanskrit-derived name for peace with olu, a nod to the water lily that grows across the Indian Ocean and has long stood for calm and renewal.

Vaavu is one of the least developed atolls in the country, which suits a brand that has built its reputation on being hard to reach. Kerry Hill Architects, the Singapore-based firm behind many of Aman’s best-known properties, is designing the resort around the white coral sand, lagoon shallows, and island setting, with a pared-back architectural style that keeps the line between indoors and out as thin as possible.

The residences are the headline for advisors with clients shopping for a private island without the hassle of owning one outright. Each of the 16 homes sits on its own island within the resort. Some face a single shoreline for sunrise or sunset, while others run the full width of the island with beach on both sides. Every residence has five bedrooms, indoor and outdoor living areas opening straight onto a private beach, an 82-foot pool, a private berth, and separate quarters for staff. Owners keep their seclusion but retain full access to everything else on the property.

That includes a dedicated wellness island housing an Aman Spa and the brand’s Spa Houses, plus a separate activity island built around diving, snorkeling, watersports, and marine excursions. Dining will draw on Aman’s global restaurant concepts, and the resort will have family facilities and communal gathering spaces for guests who want more than a villa and a lagoon.

Amanolu marks the first time Aman has planted a flag in the Maldives, a notable gap for a brand with more than 30 properties across Asia and beyond.
