Guests and staff of Amanzoe, located in Porto Heli, Greece (about two and a half hours from Athens), had to be evacuated Monday, July 4, as a wildfire reached the property. According to a statement by Aman, all guests and staff were safely and swiftly moved to alternative accommodations.
“This morning (Tuesday, July 5), we can confirm that the extent of the fire is not as bad as initially feared,” Aman said. “We are relieved to report that all main areas of the hotel have been preserved, with exterior damage to just a limited number of pavilions, while all villas remain intact. Sections of the surrounding landscape have been impacted. Amanzoe has suspended operations until further assessment is made.”
The company added, “We are very grateful to the local authorities who worked tirelessly to contain the fire and who remain on site to continue to monitor the situation.”
As for guests with upcoming reservations, Amanzoe will be reaching out, while further updates on the property “will be provided in due course.”
"My team are currently working through all outstanding bookings in date order, those with imminent reservations are being contacted as a priority," said General Manager Ernst Ludick. "Whilst we continue to work through all enquires, we kindly ask that you direct all immediate calls to your Account Manager, and rest assured that my team will be in touch with further details as soon as possible. "
According to GreekReporter.com, there have been a total of 52 wildfires recorded throughout the country over the last 24 hours. Local authorities have noted the “blistering winds” and high temperatures. The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection says there continues to be a “Very High Fire Risk” for Wednesday, July 6 throughout the following areas:
- Region of Attica
- Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)
- North Aegean Region (Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
