Anantara Heads to the End of the World with Landmark Argentine Patagonia Resort

If the spirit of adventure had a final frontier, it would look a lot like Ushuaia. Known as the southernmost city on Earth, where the Andes plunge dramatically into the icy Beagle Channel, this Patagonian outpost has long been the launching point for Antarctic expeditions.

Not to make this about me, but it’s also where yours truly popped the question to his now-husband. So, you might say people head to Ushuaia for all kinds of inspiration and life-changing moments. Now, it’s also the stage for Anantara’s first step into South America.

Minor Hotels, the Bangkok-based parent company behind Anantara, has announced plans for Anantara Ushuaia Patagonia Resort, slated to open in early 2028. The new-build property will anchor the Costa Susana master plan, a waterfront development just minutes from Tierra del Fuego National Park, and marks a significant milestone in the brand’s global expansion.

The 60-room luxury retreat promises all the signature hallmarks of Anantara’s experience-led philosophy: an expansive spa and wellness center at sea level, destination-driven dining concepts and a deep connection to place: in this case, one of the most untamed landscapes on the planet.

“Ushuaia, often called the ‘End of the World,’ is the gateway to Antarctica and a breathtaking destination in its own right,” Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels and group CEO of Minor International, said in a statement. “Bringing Anantara to South America is a key priority for the Group, and we are thrilled to introduce our brand in a setting as bold, remote, and awe-inspiring as Ushuaia.”

The Edge of the World, Reimagined

For travelers, Ushuaia is a gateway to adventure, and Anantara is poised to elevate that experience to new heights. Guests will be able to ski world-class slopes, take a ride on the famed End of the World train or embark on luxury cruises to Antarctica and South America’s southern ports. Closer to home, Tierra del Fuego National Park — a 173,000-acre sanctuary of jagged peaks, ancient forests, and glacial valleys — sits just a short drive away.

“Anantara Ushuaia is a major step in our growth strategy for the Americas and a fulfilment of a long-held ambition,” Gonzalo Aguilar, CEO of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas, added in a statement. “With our partners’ deep local expertise and our shared vision, we are confident the property will become a benchmark for immersive, sustainable hospitality at the edge of the world.”

Located just a few minutes from Ushuaia International Airport, with direct connections to Buenos Aires and other domestic hubs, the new resort will be uniquely positioned for explorers chasing both luxury and latitude.
