Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel has completed a comprehensive $50 million renovation, reimagining all 335 guestrooms, suites, and villas along with the property's dining venues, meeting facilities, and spa. The landmark hotel, which opened on April 15, 1983, has welcomed travelers, world leaders, and celebrities for more than four decades, and the renovation was guided by Anantara's "Transformed. Timeless. Thai." philosophy, emphasizing the preservation of the hotel's Thai heritage alongside contemporary design.
Designed by architect George Wimberley, the hotel is known for its Thai-inspired architecture, including hand-painted murals and garden courtyards. Many of its most treasured design elements remain, chief among them the 328-foot hand-painted mural crowning the lobby. Originally painted by Thai muralist Paiboon Suwannakudt on the 200th anniversary of the current reigning dynasty, the mural has been meticulously preserved as part of the restoration, while the 19 ceiling panels over the lobby continue to depict the "Heavens in Thai Thought."
Accommodations across the hotel's collection — from the refreshed Deluxe Rooms to the Siam Suites, Anantara Suites, and Presidential Suite — have been remodeled with warm teak wood, handcrafted detailing, silk accents, and a residential palette. Every bathroom has been redone with marble finishes, bespoke vanities, enhanced lighting, and contemporary fittings.
New to the hotel are the Anantara Garden Pool Suites and Villas, set within tropical gardens and featuring private pools with indoor and outdoor living spaces, offering the intimacy of an individual residence moments from Bangkok's shopping, business, and cultural districts. Another addition is the Jim Thompson Explorer Suite, a two-bedroom suite inspired by a Thai summer home and created through a global partnership with the Thai silk house. The suite features polished teak floors, painted paneled walls, curated artwork, an open-plan living and dining area, and a private library.
The hotel's nine restaurants and bars continue to anchor its culinary offering, including Thai cuisine at Spice Market, contemporary Italian at Biscotti, Japanese dining at Shintaro, steaks at Madison Steak Avenue, South American cuisine at Guilty Bangkok, and cocktails at Aqua Bar, one of Asia's 50 Best Bars. Mocha & Muffins serves pastries, cakes, and coffee throughout the day, with afternoon tea at The Lobby and poolside drinks and light bites at The Garden Terrace.
The renovation also extends to the hotel's meetings and events facilities. The Grand Ballroom and the property's collection of meeting rooms and event spaces have been comprehensively redesigned for international conferences, weddings, gala dinners, and intimate celebrations, pairing Thai design with updated technology.
On the wellness front, the Anantara Spa has been fully transformed while continuing to offer treatments inspired by traditional Thai healing methods. The Siam Sports Club adds a new Technogym-equipped fitness center and Pilates studio, plus an outdoor wellness space with a Muay Thai boxing ring, a rock-climbing wall, and a functional training zone.
