Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, a LEED Silver resort, is celebrating its commitment to sustainability on National Biodiesel Day, which took place on March 18, through its partnership with Pacific Biodiesel. Pacific Biodiesel has chosen Andaz Maui as its first resort partner to support the organization’s new sunflower harvest, transforming Maui sunflower seeds into oil used for meal preparation, spa treatments and as biofuel.
Through Andaz Maui’s partnership, ‘Awili Spa and Salon now incorporates locally sourced sunflower oil into all treatments. With this new initiative, guests are able to experience the resort’s sustainability efforts while enjoying massages and other body treatments. In addition, the spa carries Kuleana oils from Pacific Biodiesel available for purchase in the spa’s retail shop.
At the end of the month, the resort plans to expand its use of Pacific Biodiesel’s sunflower harvest. Andaz Maui will incorporate Maui sunflower oil into its dining venues on property beginning with Ka’ana Kitchen. In addition to purchasing sunflower oil, the resort recycles hundreds of gallons of renewable fuel to Pacific Biodiesel weekly.
Situated on Maui’s southwestern coastline along Mokapu Beach, the 15-acre beachfront Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort offers 301 guestrooms and suites, including 11 two- to four-bedroom residential villas – of which, three three-bedroom ocean- and partial-view villas were recently added. There are also multiple outdoor infinity pools, a 14,000-square-foot spa with a private adults-only pool, apothecary, retail and fitness facility, more than 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and two restaurants, including Ka’ana Kitchen helmed by Executive Chef Isaac Bancaco and Morimoto Maui by Chef Masaharu Morimoto.
