andBeyond Phinda Homestead Reopens in South Africa

Following a fire in December 2016, andBeyond Phinda Homestead closed and was completely renovated. Located in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province on a 28,555-hectare private game reserve, the Homestead offers a completely private safari experience. What can guests expect, now that the property reopened on September 1?

First and foremost, the Phinda Homestead is designed to be a contemporary bush home. Raw materials will combine with “quirky accents and local flavors that harken back to the reserve’s past as a pineapple farm.” Traditional motifs of Nguni hides, Zulu craftwork and wildlife will be found throughout.

In the bathrooms, guests will find marble basins shaped like traditional Zulu pots. There will also be an in-villa gym and massage room, a library, a spacious deck outside with an island bar and a decorative herb garden outside the kitchen.

What makes the four-bedroom Homestead so impressive, however, is that it’s a sole-use villa. Up to eight guests can completely customize their safari experience, which includes a private guide and vehicle. (Tip: At the villa, guests will have their own private chef, butler and host, as well.) Excursions can include twice-daily game drives, bush walks, Zulu village tours, night turtle drives (seasonal), scuba and ocean safaris, black rhino tracking on foot, participative conservation experiences and more. Among the animals you might encounter are elephants, cheetahs, black and white rhinos, lions and nyalas.
