Phinda Mountain Lodge, andBeyond's flagship lodge in South Africa, is reopening with a brand-new look. The new update draws inspiration mostly from the reserve’s collection of Zulu beadworks, however, the introduction of blue to its color theme will also acknowledge the lodge’s proximity to the Indian Ocean and nearby Sodwana Bay.
In the renovated guest area, travelers can now enjoy artisanal spirits and South African wines at the lodge’s new feature bar, whereas in the updated dining rooms, guests can find new pizza ovens and an interactive cooking area. Child-friendly menus and a new waffle station have also been added.
Outside, travelers will find that the deck of the lodge’s guest area has been extended with an elevated walkway linking it to a rim-flow swimming pool, gym and massage sala. The decks follow the contours of the land, wrapping around the site to offer 180-degree views of the landscape. A breakaway meeting room and private lounge have also been made available for guests seeking to combine business with pleasure, as well as a new wine cellar for private dinners and special occasions.
The guest suites have also been updated, with the dividing wall removed to allow more natural light and space. Personal bars now hold a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as tea and coffee making facilities. A sunken lounge features a built-in sofa positioned to maximize the view of the property. Patterned, natural fabrics used for the curtains and headboards create a feel of the Zulu heritage and the parquet flooring compliments the handmade herringbone shower tiles that mimic the geometric designs of Zulu basketwork. Vintage Zulu beadworks create bright accents throughout the suites and guest areas.
The Family Suite, which includes two rooms for adults and two for children, has also received a new look. It now has a covered patio, where guests can relax and enjoy outdoor dining, and a new interior featuring a guest lounge. The new pathways now connect the Family Suite to the lodge’s pool and gym, as well as the main guest areas.
