Award-winning architect Soo K. Chan—the founder of Singapore-based SCDA Architects—has launched a new lifestyle hospitality brand called Soori. Its flagship is the architect’s beachfront resort Soori Bali, which recently joined Leading Hotels of the World and is currently undergoing a light renovation.
Designed and owned by Soo K. Chan and his wife Ling Fu, the Soori Bali was originally created as the family’s private vacation home before they decided to open it to the public. There are 48 pool villas and residences, constructed in an environmentally responsible way with locally sourced materials. Soori Bali is EarthCheck-certified, meaning the resort takes measures to minimize its carbon footprint. Soori Bali also takes pride in its genuine local cultural connections and guests are invited to share authentic experiences.
Located near Tanah Lot Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the resort has a privileged oceanfront setting between Batukaru Mountain and terraced rice fields. Resort enhancements for 2017 include a new Indonesian restaurant situated in a traditional Balinese house in the rice fields, an enlarged spa program, and—at the ultra-luxe 10-room Sori Estate—an expanded helipad lawn with a cantilevered platform over the ocean. Other resort facilities include an infinity pool, gym, library, and two gourmet restaurants.
What’s next for the Sori brand? Soori High Line will open in 2018 as a residence in New York City’s West Chelsea. Next to the famous High Line Park, the boutique residence will have 31 one- to five-bedroom units. Following the debut of Soori High Line will be Soori Niseko, a ski resort in Japan.
