It’s official. The Hotel de la Paix—a historic landmark on the shores of Lake Geneva since 1865—has been transformed into Switzerland’s first Ritz-Carlton hotel. With views of Geneva’s famous water jet and snow-capped Mont Blanc in the distance, the luxury hotel began its metamorphosis in 2015, when the Manz family announced a multimillion-euro renovation and partnership with Ritz-Carlton. The project reduced the room inventory to 75 rooms (including 14 suites), newly decorated with all the contemporary amenities expected at a five-star hotel, though retaining historic touches. Floor-to-ceiling windows capture the views and fill the rooms with natural light. Top digs: The Grace Kelly suite (1,130 square feet), imagined in an Art Deco style with gold leaf, is named for the Princess of Monaco who was a regular client at the hotel. Equipped with multiple balconies for taking in the views, the aptly named Mont Blanc Suite encompasses 1,184 square feet.
With respect for the building’s heritage, the new decoration of the public areas is aligned with the themes of art, nature and time. In the atrium corridors, tapestries depict great historic figures who fought for peace: from Giuseppe Garibaldi to Victor Hugo.
Two new culinary experiences are getting lots of buzz this September. Totally on trend, the FiskeBar is a Nordic-inspired restaurant. To quote the official website: It’s “the first Nordic cuisine concept in Geneva full of bold flavors and hyper-local ingredients.” Craft cocktails match the cuisine. Overlooking the lake, Living Room Bar & Kitchen serves international “fusion” food, plus Italian chef Alessio Corda’s take on regional classics, utilizing local seasonal products. There’s also a Philippe Pascoët chocolate shop in the lobby.
