Ayers Rock Resort, Uluru has launched two new Indigenous-inspired experiences in Australia—“Sunrise Journeys” and “Australian Native High Tea.”
“Sunrise Journeys” is a collaboration between three Anangu artists, namely Selina Kulitja (Maruku Arts), Denise Brady (Kaltukatjara Art) and Valerie Brumby (Walkatjara Art); Anangu musician and composer, Jeremy Whiskey; and visual experience creator, Mandylights. Together, the female artists collaborated on a painting titled “Ngura Nganampa Wiṟu Mulapa,” which means “Our Country Is Truly Beautiful” in Pitjantjatjara. The original painting is available to view at the Gallery of Central Australia (GoCA).
As guests take their seats before dawn on a sustainably constructed, floating platform overlooking Uluru and Kata Tjuta, the artwork is recreated on the dark desert landscape below using lasers and projection technology. Local musician Jeremy Whiskey’s bespoke musical score is coupled with natural soundscapes and narration from the artists. The light and music experience is followed by Uluru sunrise. Following the display, guests enjoy a breakfast of native flavors paired with an Australian tea.
The 2.5-hour “Sunrise Journeys” experience is priced at $125 per person for adults and $75 per person for children. Prices are inclusive of breakfast, hot drinks and return coach transfers. It is timed conveniently before flight schedules to allow guests to fit in a morning tour even on departure day.
“Australian Native High Tea” is a new culinary experience that celebrates native ingredients sourced from Central Australia and around the country. Each afternoon, guests can sample a selection of handmade petits fours and savory snacks with tea, coffee and Australian sparkling wine. The experience is designed for guests seeking to rest after a morning of exploring Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, particularly during the warmer months.
The 1.5-hour “Australian Native High Tea” experience will be served daily at Sails in the Desert. Prices start at $75 for adults and $45 for children.
Bookings are open for both experiences, which will operate daily from August 1, 2024.
