We’re waiting with bated breath to find out when Itz’ana Resort & Residences, a beachfront property in Belize, is going to debut. Officials are saying, “it’s safe to say it’s going to open this year” and a rep even told us they’ll have the date soon. In the meantime, here’s what we do know:
At the center of the resort is the Great House, where Limilia, the resort’s signature restaurant, among others, is located. Limilia will have a seasonal menu with both local and international seafood options; however, the must-orders are the lionfish crudo and grilled octopus romesco. Itz’ana will reportedly offer a Cook Your Catch voyage where guests head onto the water to catch fish for dinner, which will be prepared by Limilia’s chefs.
We’re excited by the 46 Waterfront Residences. The top digs are the Four- and Five-Bedroom Lagoon Villas, both of which offer at least 4,000 square feet of space, large terraces, a waterfront plunge pool, multiple master suites and more. Even Better: These accommodations (as well as several others) are to be fitted with rooftop solar panels, reducing the resort’s energy consumption. Couples should opt for the One-Bedroom Solar Cottages facing the lagoon or the One-Bedroom Beachfront Lofts facing the Caribbean.
If possible, try to plan a trip between March and June when whale shark sightings are most common (usually within a few days of a full moon, to be even more specific). We’re told the concierge can set up a chance to snorkel or scuba with the docile animals. Itz’ana also says they can book rappelling and zip lining excursions from the top of the Antelope Falls, hikes through the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, tours of a Mayan cacao farm, and snorkeling with an expert guide at the Belize Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
