Le Grand Hôtel Cabourg Cabourg, Normandy, France
8Telegraph expert rating
The Grand Hôtel stands right on Cabourg’s pretty beach at the end of the seaside resort’s high street, Avenue de la Mer. Dating from 1861, the Grand Hôtel was rebuilt in a Belle Epoque style at the beginning of the 20th century after completely burning down. Entering is like diving into a bygone era. The sumptuous hall with high ceilings and an impressive chandelier has inviting Epoque armchairs and sofas on which to read, relax and have a drink. One can also choose the hotel’s elegant bar, or the terrace on the beach. Read expert review. From £199 per night. Check availability. Rates provided by Booking.com.
• Europe's best beach holiday hotels
Le Flaubert Trouville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France
9Telegraph expert rating
At a glance, the Flaubert looks a very traditional sort of place, but it has all been considerably brightened up to give it a more contemporary feel, using vintage graphics along with plenty of canvas and wood. Each room is individually styled, with classic pastel prints and linens, and slightly staid but comfortable furnishings. What really stands out is their above-average size, often boosted by large sea-view balconies and substantial bathrooms. Read expert review. From £134 per night. Check availability. • The best things to do in Normandy
L'Erguillere Normandy, France
8Telegraph expert rating
Perched on a low seafront hillside, above a jetty that’s claimed to be France’s smallest port, and just up from a perfect little beach. While there’s little distinctive about the building itself, its enthusiastic young owners have filled it with personal touches, and the guests, to be found sitting on the outdoor terrace on long summer evenings, seem to concur in keeping things as peaceful as possible. Each of the 10 guest rooms is different. Read expert review. From £67 per night.
• The best restaurants in Normandy
Hotel des Bains St-Jean-Le-Thomas, Normandy, France
8Telegraph expert rating
The hotel stands just off the corniche road that winds around Mont St-Michel bay, on a pretty village street that leads in a few hundred yards to a huge beach that’s more suitable for strolling and cockle-picking than swimming. At low tide – and only with an expert guide – it’s possible to walk all the way to the abbey. Furnished simply, and decorated and carpeted in light colours, the hotel has good en-suite facilities. • The best beaches in Normandy
Le Landemer Urville-Nacqueville, Normandy, France
9Telegraph expert rating
The building itself has been here forever – Claude Monet was a guest – and it remains set amid impeccable hydrangea-fringed lawns, but its interior layout, and sea-facing façade, complete with waterfront deck, have been re-configured to create a wonderfully bright and contemporary sense of space. With their sheer white walls, pale light-oak floors and minimal modern bathroom fittings – and even down to their see-through chairs – the 10 sizeable guest rooms are designed to make the most of the Landemer’s light-bathed seafront location. La Maison Des Galets Saint-Valery-en-Caux, Normandy, France
7Telegraph expert rating
Slap in the middle of the St-Valery seafront, facing across the promenade to a huge shingle beach. Opt if you can for one of the eight (out of 14) sea-facing rooms, of which six have balconies. Furnishings are simple and unshowy, but appealing, with nice little touches like the bedside tables designed to look like little boats, and the bathrooms have stylish modern fittings. Read expert review. From £45 per night. Check availability. Rates provided by Booking.com.
