Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas continues to expand its portfolio with buzzed-about new openings, including five lodges in Bhutan, a resort in Fiji, a private island in Cambodia and the brand’s first urban hotel in Singapore. Committed to community, sustainability, wellness and design, Six Senses currently operates 11 resorts and 30 spas in 20 countries. But come 2021, another exciting resort debut will be added to the mix when Six Senses Formosa Bay opens in Brazil as the company’s first property in South America.
The setting is special; Baia Formosa is Brazil’s most eastern territory, and the resort will occupy a serene stretch of Atlantic beachfront on a former coconut plantation. Protected by the resort, the beach is known as a sea turtle nesting ground, and a local conservation center will soon establish a research facility nearby. The Six Senses Formosa Bay will be part of the 6,350-acre Eco Estrela Project, where mangrove-graced freshwater canals can be navigated by boat.
Six Senses Formosa Bay will be built with sustainable materials: its villas designed to minimize energy consumption. This dedication to eco-friendly principles will also be emphasized with guest transportation around the resort, via electric buggy, bicycle or on foot. Expect an organic farm, top-notch spa offering both Brazilian therapies and Six Senses signatures and a number of recreational activities (surf’s up!).
The current masterplan proposes 73 one- two- and three-bedroom Pool Villas to the north (close to the water sports facility); 54 two- and three-bedroom Family Villas to the property's center (focused on family and wellness); and 58 three- four- and five-bedroom Six Senses Residences to the south (private ownership).
