The countdown is on. Palácio Tangará, one of the most highly anticipated hotels of the year, will officially open its doors in São Paulo on May 10, 2017. This is the first Oetker Collection hotel in South America, and it already has tongues wagging in Brazil. The verdant location will position the hotel as an urban oasis in this huge metropolis; Burle Marx Park was designed by a highly regarded Brazilian landscape designer and these tropical gardens serve as “green lungs” for the city.
The Oetker Collection is pulling out all the stops to create a knock-out luxury hotel experience in Brazil. First of all, the F&B outlets will be overseen by Michelin-starred Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. (This move follows in the wake of Jean-Georges’ successful partnership with the Oetker Collection at Eden Rock - St Barth.) Equipped with outdoor terraces, the eateries will comprise a signature restaurant, a chef’s table, a bar, a wine cellar, a lobby and lounge bar.
Then there’s the spa by Sisley, the indoor and outdoor pools, and the ballroom accommodating 530 guests (we hear wedding bells!)
The hotel was decorated by the Brazilian interior design firms Bick Simonato and Anastassiadis. There are 141 guestrooms, including 59 suites, which come with walk-in closets, spacious bathrooms, and balconies/terraces. Note that the Deluxe room, the starting category, is the largest in the city at 506 square feet. And the suites are truly over-the-top. For example, the 3,003-square-foot Royal Suite is billed as “the accommodation of choice for heads of state, captains of industry, entertainment personalities and discerning travelers from all over the world.”
As quoted on the official website, managing director Celso Do Valle said, “We are thrilled to now bring European hospitality combined with Brazilian Art de vivre to this most vibrant city.”
The Oetker Collection comprises some of the world’s most recognizable luxury hotels like Le Bristol in Paris, Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in the south of France, Fregate Island Private (joined the collection in 2013), L'Apogée Courchevel (2013), Eden Rock - St Barths (2014) and The Lanesborough, London (November 2015). There are nine properties in total.
