Sustainable safari lodge operator The Bushcamp Company, during the temporary closure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, says it is expanding its conservation and community-centered efforts in the region and continuing to support staff. The company is also continuing the refurbishments at four of its eight properties within South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, with a complete rebuild of one property. All refurbishments and rebuilds will be ready for the late 2020-21 safari season.
The refurbishments include Mfuwe Lodge located inside South Luangwa National Park, the new Director’s House located adjacent to Mfuwe Lodge, Kapamba Bushcamp overlooking the Kapamba River, Kuyenda Bushcamp along the Manzi River and Chindeni Bushcamp overlooking Chindeni lagoon and the N’Chindeni hills.
Here’s what to expect:
Mfuwe Lodge
All 18 chalets and common areas, including the lobby, bar, curio shop, and spa, have been redesigned and incorporate new soft furnishings. The Mfuwe Lodge Library is being enlarged with the addition of a new Photographic Studio, which will be used for small conferences, presentations and learning experiences, including classes with wildlife photographers.
New Director’s House: Located on the grounds of Mfuwe Lodge, the brand-new Director’s House is a private thatched house, which is well-suited for small groups or families as it includes a private guide and vehicle. It comprises two en-suite bedrooms and can sleep a family of six. It also has a private swimming pool, outdoor deck and boma area.
Kapamba Bushcamp
At Kapamba Bushcamp, the lounge and dining area is being refurbished with new finishes and local handcrafted furniture. A new infinity pool and accompanying deck will let guests soak in the sun while taking in views of the Kapamba River. The camp’s four chalets are getting new looks with rebuilt interiors and new soft furnishings. In addition, two new raised salas, with mosquito nets and bathrooms, will now offer safe sleep-out options, with views up and down the Kapamba River.
Kuyenda Bushcamp
Kuyenda Bushcamp is being completely redesigned and rebuilt. All rondavels are being rebuilt on raised platforms with new verandas and open-air showers with views of the Manzi River plain. Two additional rondavels are also being built, and an extra guide and vehicle are being added to the camp, enabling increased game-viewing opportunities, with both walking safaris and game drives.
Chindeni Bushcamp
Chindeni Bushcamp’s main lounge, bar and dining area, situated on a large raised deck with a view of the permanent lagoon and N’Chindeni hills, are receiving a complete makeover with a redesigned tent structure, new furniture and soft furnishings. The four chalets are also receiving new furniture, including new beds with large walk-in mosquito nets, as well as revamped soft furnishings.
Early last summer, the company began offering private yoga classes at its Bushcamps and Mfuwe Lodge. More recently, the company debuted a new specialist photo-game viewing Land Rover designed in collaboration with renowned wildlife photographic guide Isak Pretorius.
