Cala de Mar Resort & Spa, a luxury beach resort in Ixtapa, announced its rebrand as an independent boutique property. Formerly known as Capella Ixtapa, the 54-suite property on the Sierra Madre cliff side offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean as well as luxury accommodations, service, and culinary experiences inspired by the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo culture.
Cala de Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa's guestrooms and suites have spacious terraces, sea views and individual plunge pools. The property also offers a spa with Aztec healing treatments, four restaurants, a tequila and mezcal bar, yoga and meditation deck, a private cove, personal assistants, chef-lead culinary excursions and an array of complimentary daily amenities.
The property is minutes from Zihuatanejo, known for its white-sand beaches, local seafood, pedestrian-only streets and authentic markets; the more modernized Ixtapa is complete with a full-scale marina, upscale restaurants and picturesque golf course views.
Cala de Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa is launching a range of new activities for travelers. The new two-day Land & Sea Culinary Excursion brings guests on a privately chartered luxury boat for a six-hour fishing expedition for fresh catch. The next day, the excursion embarks on a local shopping experience led by Executive Chef Alain Michel Derouin Martínez through the markets of Zihuatanejo, followed by a private cooking class using the locally sourced ingredients. Guests can also indulge in a special Mezcal tasting, which is native to Mexico.
In addition to the elevated culinary programming, Cala de Mar is renewing its spa and fitness offerings. Placing a focus on health and wellness, the resort has announced a new bike partnership with local artist, Nicolas Pena. A Guerrero native and third generation artist, Pena pulled inspiration from the surrounding colors of nature in the destination to design beach cruisers available for guests to use while staying at the resort. Teals, bright oranges, eclectic pinks and reserved purples blend together on the bicycles to reflect the tropical seaside area.
Guests can observe the flora and fauna on a bicycle tour through an ecological and wildlife reserve with crocodiles, iguanas and unique bird activity. For fitness gurus, the destination is also home to a five-mile bicycle path, starting at Marina Ixtapa and heading up the coast to Playa Linda. In the opposite direction, a separate cycle path, covering over two miles, runs between Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. Afterwards, guests can relax and enjoy signature treatments indigenous to Mexico at the region’s best spa, wellness and fitness facility, El Capricho Spa, with 6,000 square feet of interior space overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
At the helm of the newly rebranded property is an experienced leadership team, including recently appointed General Manager Javier Aluni, Director of Sales Guillermina Camarena, Executive Chef Alain Michel Derouin Martínez and Spa Manager Adrián Cano.
