It’s official: Alex Lake Zurich opened its doors this summer as an urban resort celebrating Swiss lakeside living—situated in Thalwil, six miles south of the country’s financial capital. Alex is the latest property from Campbell Gray Hotels, the hospitality group known for Le Gray in Beirut and The Phoenicia in Malta. As we reported last year, Alex Lake Zurich is a stone and glass boutique hotel fashioned as a destination for both leisure and business guests (short or long stays). The hotel offers a complimentary car service to/from Thalwil station, where there are direct trains to Zurich’s main station, the airport, Zug, and ski resorts in the Alps.
The London-based Brady Williams Studio infused the interiors with an elegant, modern design. The vibe is relaxed, like a chic private residence. Each of the 44 rooms and penthouses comes with a custom kitchenette and a terrace or balcony overlooking the lake. Decked out with bespoke decor and filled with light, the rooms showcase natural materials to create a link with the pristine scenery outside. The starting studio room category is sized at 300 square feet.
The Boat House Restaurant serves Swiss-sourced produce and local wines at the water’s edge. Enjoy drinks on the expansive terrace or fireside in the bar lounge. When it comes to health and fitness, there’s a gym stocked with Technogym equipment, and a bijou spa equipped with a sauna, steam room, and vitality pool. But why not go swimming directly in the lake? It’s also possible to enjoy the water onboard the hotel’s motorboat; book an excursion to the city via the XO 270 Cabin. Alex Lake Zurich is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
