Lake Zurich is getting a new luxury addition. Campbell Gray Hotels—the hospitality group known for Le Gray in Beirut and The Phoenicia in Malta—has set its sights on Switzerland for its latest property.
Set to debut in mid 2019, Alex will be a boutique-sized hotel located on the western shore of Lake Zurich, about six miles south of the country’s financial capital. (The official address, Seestrasse 182 in Thalwil, has a long history as a hotel setting, first with the Hotel Krone in 1896, followed by the Hotel Alexander am See in 1958, which was demolished in 2015 to make way for The Alex.)
The new-build hotel is currently under construction and, upon completion, will show off a stone and glass architectural design. The 44 rooms and suites will be set across five floors, each room outfitted with terraces overlooking the lake. The in-room kitchens also mean that these rooms are equally as good for long-stays as short sojourns.
A major focus of the Alex will be its dining concepts. Designed in a chic, contemporary style, the all-day restaurant will offer a menu highlighting locally sourced, seasonal ingredients; think fresh salads, grilled meats and locally caught fish. The extensive wine cellar will also feature wines from Switzerland. Pair your meal with the entrancing lake views from the waterfront terrace. Fashioned as an “urban resort,” The Alex will also have a private marina, a fitness suite, a mini spa and a robust cocktail program.
